Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall AV upgrade, replacing a portable PA with a permanent installed system
System design, engineering, CAD documentation, rigging design, rack and infrastructure design, network design, installation, programming, and commissioning
20-20 designed, engineered, and integrated a permanent audio, video, control, and network system for Hope Community Church, replacing the portable PA the church had relied on for every service.
For years, Sunday at Hope Community Church started with setup. Speakers came out, cables were run, and the system was rebuilt by hand before every service, then torn down again afterward. A portable PA can get a church through, but it was never designed for the room. Coverage was uneven, speech clarity depended on where you sat, and every service carried the risk of a loose cable or a missed connection.
Hope Community Church partnered with 20-20 to replace that weekly routine with a permanent system designed around the sanctuary itself, along with a Fellowship Hall that could finally support teaching, video, and gatherings of its own.
From Portable to Purpose-Built
A portable PA treats every room the same. A permanent system starts with the room.
20-20 designed the sanctuary system around the space's geometry, seating, and stage. A Martin Audio CDD15 main loudspeaker and a time-aligned CDD15 delay carry speech and music evenly from the front rows to the back of the room. CDD8 fill loudspeakers cover the side seating areas a single source couldn't reach, and a flown Danley TH-Mini subwoofer adds the low-end foundation contemporary worship needs without taking up floor space.
Every loudspeaker was located, aimed, and rigged permanently, with documented rigging details, so coverage is consistent every week instead of depending on where stands were placed that morning.

A Stage That's Ready Every Sunday
With a portable system, every input is a cable run across the floor. At Hope, 20-20 built the connections into the building.
Three floor boxes across the stage provide permanent microphone inputs and monitor returns where the worship team actually needs them. They connect to an Allen & Heath digital stagebox in the equipment rack, which links back to the SQ-5 console at front of house over a single network connection. Shure SLX-D digital wireless, with remote antenna distribution, gives speakers and worship leaders reliable wireless coverage.
The result is a stage that's ready when the team walks in. Musicians plug in, the console recalls the service, and the focus stays on worship instead of setup.
Simple Control for Volunteers
The system is built on Q-SYS, with a touchscreen at front of house that gives staff and volunteers straightforward control of the sanctuary system without needing to understand the processing behind it. Behind the scenes, the Q-SYS core handles loudspeaker processing, routing, and protection, so the system sounds the same week after week no matter who is running it.
Fellowship Hall
The Fellowship Hall received its own audio and video system, so it can serve as a real gathering space and not an overflow afterthought.
Six Martin Audio ceiling loudspeakers provide even, clear coverage throughout the room. A 75" Maxhub display with HDMI wall connectivity supports teaching, presentations, video, and events. A dedicated Q-SYS touchscreen gives the room simple, independent control, and audio from the display is routed through the main system so presentations sound as good as they look.
Infrastructure Built to Last
All equipment lives in a single, organized rack in a dedicated AV closet, connected to the stage, front of house, and Fellowship Hall through a custom-engraved tech plate and permanent cable paths routed through the crawlspace. NETGEAR Pro AV networking ties the audio, control, wireless access, and video systems together, and network-controlled power management protects the equipment and allows remote power control.
Every system was fully documented in drawings covering device layouts, rigging details, rack elevations, signal flow, and network addressing. That gives the church a clear record of its system for support and future expansion.
Project Outcome
The difference between a portable PA and a permanent system is dramatic.
For the congregation, the sanctuary now sounds clear, full, and consistent from every seat. Speech is easy to understand, and worship music finally has the presence and low end the room was missing.
For volunteers and staff, Sunday mornings no longer begin with setup and end with teardown. The system is ready when they arrive, simple to operate, and reliable every week.
For church leadership, Hope Community Church now has a permanent technology foundation that supports both the sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall, and room to grow as the ministry does.
20-20 delivered more than a sound system for Hope Community Church. We replaced a weekly setup routine with an intentional worship environment, one that removes distractions so the focus stays where it belongs.
