Scope

AVL system design, engineering, installation, programming, DSP configuration, Pro AV network integration, commissioning, and operational workflow development

20-20 designed, engineered, programmed, and integrated the audio, video, lighting, control, and Pro AV network infrastructure for High Tides & Good Vibes, a 40,000-square-foot family entertainment destination in Surf City, North Carolina.

High Tides & Good Vibes combines dining, nightlife, bowling, laser tag, arcade gaming, private events, indoor attractions, and outdoor entertainment within one large-scale facility. The venue includes a full-service restaurant and bar, 16 bowling lanes, a two-story laser tag arena, 60+ game arcade, private karaoke room, multi-sport simulator, indoor ropes course, multi-level play structure, axe throwing, darts, VIP and event spaces, an outdoor bar, and beer garden.

20-20 served as the AVL design and integration partner for the project, delivering the core technology infrastructure that connects the guest experience across the property. The system includes multi-zone distributed audio, AV-over-IP video distribution, large-format LED display integration, Q-SYS DSP and control, CueServer lighting control, custom DMX-controllable UV LED bar fixtures, fiber backbone infrastructure, CAT6 structured cabling, and NETGEAR Pro AV switching and routing.

Rather than treating each attraction as an independent technology package, 20-20 designed High Tides & Good Vibes around one centralized, networked AVL platform. Each environment can operate independently when needed, while audio, video, lighting, control, and network services remain connected across the entire facility.

Technology Is Part of the Experience

20-20 is more than an AVL integrator. We are an experiential technology partner.

When technology is designed and deployed correctly, it does more than play music, display content, provide control, or turn lights on and off. It helps tell the story of a venue. It establishes the energy of a space, directs guest attention, supports operational flow, and helps create an experience people remember.

Every entertainment venue is competing for attention. Guests are influenced by screens, sound, lighting, sports, events, digital content, social media, and the activity happening around them. Their attention is going somewhere whether the venue intentionally directs it or not.

A venue can take control of that experience—or leave it to disconnected systems, inconsistent content, competing noise, and chance.

High Tides & Good Vibes chose to take control.

The ownership and project team partnered with 20-20 to help shape how the facility would feel from the moment guests approach the building through every part of their visit. That thinking informed the venue-wide audio system, AV-over-IP video distribution, bowling LED display, outdoor LED video wall, immersive laser tag audio, custom DMX and UV entertainment lighting, Q-SYS control platform, and the Pro AV network infrastructure tying the entire facility together.

The objective was not to add technology for the sake of technology. It was to create a connected entertainment environment where every system supports the energy, identity, operation, and guest experience of High Tides & Good Vibes.

A Connected Entertainment Platform

High Tides & Good Vibes required more than a collection of speakers, displays, and control panels.

The restaurant, bar, bowling center, laser tag attraction, arcade, VIP spaces, private-event areas, outdoor bar, and beer garden all have different operational requirements. Some spaces need to support background music and television viewing. Others need high-energy entertainment audio, immersive attraction sound, LED content, lighting effects, or independent event control.

20-20 designed the facility around a centralized technology backbone so those environments could function independently without becoming isolated systems.

The result is a venue-wide AVL platform that gives staff the ability to manage different experiences simultaneously. The restaurant can run background music and sports programming while the bowling floor operates with entertainment content and lighting effects. A private event can take control of selected displays and audio zones. The laser tag team can run a briefing sequence while the outdoor beer garden carries game-day programming.

Each area serves its own purpose, but the entire property remains connected through the same audio, video, control, and network infrastructure.

Distributed Audio and AV-over-IP Video

20-20 deployed a multi-zone distributed audio system with more than 18 independently controllable zones across the facility.

Audio coverage extends throughout the restaurant, bars, bowling lanes, arcade, laser tag support areas, VIP and event spaces, attraction areas, outdoor bar, beer garden, and other guest-facing locations. Each zone can operate independently while remaining connected to the facility-wide audio platform.

The system supports background music, television audio, sports programming, announcements, private events, attraction audio, and area-specific entertainment programming. This gives the venue the flexibility to manage multiple environments at the same time without forcing the entire facility into one audio experience.

For video, 20-20 designed and deployed an AV-over-IP distribution system serving more than 25 displays throughout the property.

The video platform includes more than 12 AV-over-IP encoders and 23 AV-over-IP decoders, allowing video sources and displays to be routed dynamically over the Pro AV network rather than locked into fixed point-to-point paths.

This gives High Tides & Good Vibes the flexibility to distribute sports, broadcast programming, promotional media, digital signage, event content, and attraction-specific video to the areas where it is needed.

The AV-over-IP system supports displays throughout the restaurant, indoor bar areas, bowling environment, arcade and attraction spaces, VIP/event areas, outdoor bar, and beer garden.

LED Displays and Entertainment Lighting

The bowling environment is centered around a 10-foot-high NEOVERSE LED display spanning all 16 lanes.

20-20 integrated the bowling LED system into the facility's larger video-routing and Q-SYS control ecosystem. Rather than functioning as an isolated display system, the LED display is part of the venue-wide technology platform and can support bowling content, branded media, promotional visuals, special-event content, and high-energy entertainment programming.

The outdoor bar and beer garden include a large outdoor LED video wall, distributed outdoor audio, and multiple television displays. This outdoor environment can function as its own destination for sports viewing, entertainment, and private events, or it can become part of a larger facility-wide program.

20-20 also provided entertainment-lighting integration for the bowling and laser tag environments.

The project included custom DMX-controllable LED bar fixtures with UV output. These fixtures were developed to support the high-energy visual environment required for bowling and laser tag, giving the venue the ability to create color, movement, effects, UV activation, and programmed lighting looks for daily operation, nightlife, special events, and attraction-specific scenes.

CueServer provides the DMX lighting-control platform, with custom programming completed by 20-20. CueServer is integrated with Q-SYS so staff can access lighting scenes and operational presets through the same control environment used for audio, video, and display management.

Q-SYS Control and Attraction Workflows

Q-SYS serves as the central processing and control platform for High Tides & Good Vibes.

20-20 designed and programmed custom Q-SYS user interfaces around the workflows of venue staff. Authorized users do not need to operate individual encoders, decoders, DSP processors, LED processors, lighting controllers, or network devices during normal operation.

From the Q-SYS control environment, staff can manage audio-zone source selection, routing, volume, and mute control; video source selection and AV-over-IP routing; distributed display operation; bowling LED display and outdoor LED video wall functions; CueServer lighting scenes and entertainment-lighting presets; laser tag briefing-room media playback; and attraction-specific workflows and venue-wide operational presets.

The laser tag attraction received dedicated AV and control integration to support both the guest experience and staff operation.

The two-story arena was designed with immersive audio capability, allowing sound to become part of the attraction environment rather than simply background music. The laser tag briefing room includes a dedicated Q-SYS control interface for launching safety briefings, scenario videos, and other pre-game media. The vesting room also includes dedicated AV and control integration to support the operational flow of guest groups entering the arena.

The private karaoke room includes a dedicated audio and video system, allowing it to operate as its own entertainment environment while remaining supported by the facility's wider technology infrastructure.

Fiber, CAT6, and Pro AV Networking

The High Tides & Good Vibes AVL ecosystem is supported by a facility-wide fiber backbone and CAT6 structured cabling system.

The network infrastructure supports AV-over-IP video distribution, Q-SYS audio and control, CueServer lighting integration, LED display systems, control endpoints, distributed displays, and attraction-specific technology throughout the property.

NETGEAR Pro AV routers and switches provide the network backbone for the integrated system.

  • Fiber backbone connectivity across the facility
  • CAT6 structured cabling for distributed AV, control, and network endpoints
  • NETGEAR Pro AV routing and switching
  • AV-over-IP transport and multicast configuration
  • VLAN segmentation for Pro AV traffic
  • Q-SYS network connectivity
  • CueServer network integration
  • LED display and processor connectivity
  • Distributed touch-panel and control-endpoint connectivity
  • Capacity for future expansion and additional endpoints
