Christ Community Church - Wilmington, NC
20-20 served as the design-build AVL partner for Christ Community Church in Wilmington, North Carolina, delivering complete audio, video, lighting, acoustics, control, Pro AV networking, fiber, CAT6A, and structured-cabling systems for a major campus expansion.
The project includes a new approximately 800-seat worship sanctuary, a new education wing, a new gymnasium, a renovated chapel, youth worship and ministry spaces, classrooms, offices, lobby and common areas, outdoor gathering areas, and campus-wide distributed technology infrastructure.
The expansion grew the campus on both sides of the existing building. Rather than treating the new sanctuary, education wing, gymnasium, chapel, and ministry spaces as isolated projects, 20-20 designed the technology as one connected ministry platform.
Built Around Ministry, Not Limitations
Before the new sanctuary was planned, Christ Community Church was considering improvements to its existing worship environment.
20-20 worked with church leadership to evaluate the opportunity through a wider lens: not simply what technology could be added to the room, but what the church needed the environment to become.
We evaluated sightlines, loudspeaker coverage, stage function, room geometry, volunteer workflows, equipment access, production requirements, video placement, acoustics, backstage flow, future capacity, and the operational realities of worship ministry.
That process expanded the conversation beyond a conventional sanctuary renovation.
Rather than investing heavily in a room that was no longer fit to support the church’s long-term ministry vision, Christ Community Church chose to build a new approximately 800-seat worship sanctuary in addition to the new education wing and gymnasium.
20-20 helped shape that decision and then carried the project through full design, engineering, integration, programming, commissioning, and staff-ready operation.
The new sanctuary was designed around the experience of gathering. The stage, stage-wing rooms, green room, equipment closet, lighting positions, LED walls, loudspeaker deployment, acoustical treatment, production areas, technical pathways, rigging locations, and volunteer workflows were coordinated together from the beginning.
The result is not a building where technology was installed after construction. It is a worship environment where technology, architecture, acoustics, ministry, and guest experience were designed to support the same purpose.
Technology That Supports the Gathering
Technology does not create worship. It does not replace leadership, music, preaching, community, or the message being shared.
But when technology is designed intentionally, it removes distractions and helps people engage with what matters.
Clear audio allows the room to hear every word. Thoughtful loudspeaker deployment allows worship music to feel present without becoming overwhelming. LED walls support lyrics, scripture, teaching content, and visual moments without fighting the architecture. Lighting helps direct attention and shape the environment without becoming the focus. Acoustics help the room feel controlled, comfortable, and intelligible. Production systems give volunteers the tools to serve with confidence.
At Christ Community Church, 20-20 designed the new sanctuary around those outcomes.
The goal was not to add more technology. The goal was to create an environment where every system works together to support worship, communication, connection, and the full experience of gathering as a church.

Sanctuary Audio and Acoustics
The new sanctuary required a system that could support spoken word, worship music, video content, and special events without allowing technology to overpower the room.
20-20 designed and integrated a Fulcrum Acoustic loudspeaker system specifically around the sanctuary’s geometry, congregation area, stage location, sightlines, and acoustic conditions.
The system provides clear speech intelligibility for preaching and announcements while delivering the musical impact and low-frequency support required for contemporary worship. Loudspeaker locations and aiming were coordinated with the sanctuary architecture early in the design process, allowing the system to become part of the room rather than something added around it.
Acoustics were treated as part of the AVL design—not as a separate afterthought.
20-20 helped coordinate acoustical treatment throughout the sanctuary to reduce unwanted reflections, improve intelligibility, support a more controlled musical environment, and create a better mixing experience for the production team.
The result is a sanctuary that can be energetic and immersive when worship calls for it while still feeling clear, natural, and comfortable when the room is focused on teaching, prayer, or spoken word.
Worship Production Infrastructure
The sanctuary production system was designed around the people who would operate it every week.
20-20 built a flexible worship-production environment supporting worship leaders, musicians, volunteer audio engineers, lighting operators, camera operators, technical directors, and church staff.
The audio platform includes an Allen & Heath Avantis digital console, networked stage I/O, extensive stage connectivity, patching infrastructure, professional wireless microphones, RF coordination, and in-ear-monitoring capability.
The stage includes distributed technical connection points for microphones, instruments, monitor returns, Dante audio, SDI video, sync, lighting data, and other production requirements. This allows the room to adapt to different worship teams, guest artists, seasonal productions, special events, and changing ministry needs without relying on temporary cabling or improvised workarounds.
The system is technically capable behind the scenes but intentionally organized around repeatable workflows for volunteers and staff.
LED, Video, and Streaming
Video supports the worship experience at Christ Community Church without replacing the importance of the room itself.
20-20 designed and integrated two large-format LED walls positioned to support lyrics, scripture, sermon content, worship visuals, announcements, and special-event media. A dedicated LED confidence display provides support for worship leaders, speakers, and on-stage participants.
The sanctuary video system also includes PTZ camera infrastructure, production switching, SDI video routing, graphics and playback capability, production monitoring, and connectivity for livestream and recording workflows.
The system supports:
Worship lyrics and scripture
Sermon and teaching content
Worship visuals
Announcement and event content
Livestream and recording production
Camera switching and production monitoring
Confidence monitoring for stage participants
Future media and ministry workflows
The system was designed so visual technology supports the service rather than becoming a distraction from it.
Lighting and Atmosphere
Lighting at Christ Community Church supports worship, teaching, volunteer operation, livestream production, special events, and the atmosphere of the sanctuary.
20-20 designed and integrated a complete stage-lighting, house-lighting, and control environment. The system includes theatrical fixtures, programmable moving and wash lighting, front and side light, LED tape integrated into the sanctuary architecture, DMX distribution, lighting-network infrastructure, and staff-ready control.
The lighting system gives the church the flexibility to move between welcoming pre-service environments, bright teaching looks, focused worship moments, student events, seasonal productions, and community gatherings.
The goal was never to create a concert venue. It was to create a flexible worship environment where lighting supports the message, the people on stage, and the congregation in the room.
From Sanctuary to Chapel
When the new sanctuary became the primary worship environment, the former sanctuary was intentionally redesigned as a chapel.
20-20 helped the church design and deploy the chapel technology system so it could continue serving the campus as a dedicated space for smaller worship gatherings, weddings, funerals, classes, rehearsals, meetings, and ministry events.
The chapel includes its own audio, video, lighting, control, and network connectivity. It provides the church with an additional purpose-built gathering environment without requiring the operational scale of the primary sanctuary.
Rather than becoming a secondary or leftover space, the former sanctuary became a flexible ministry asset with its own technology identity and operational role.
Education, Kids, and Youth Technology
The new education wing was designed to support more than traditional classroom teaching.
Christ Community Church needed spaces that could serve children’s ministry, student ministry, adult education, group teaching, volunteer training, community gatherings, and the changing needs of a growing church campus.
20-20 designed the education-wing technology as a connected learning and ministry platform.
Every classroom includes Q-SYS control, in-ceiling loudspeakers, Maxhub display technology, and local presentation connectivity. This gives teachers and ministry leaders a consistent, easy-to-use system in every room rather than a collection of disconnected displays and audio devices.
With Q-SYS control, staff and volunteers can operate each room through a simple interface designed around the functions they need: power the system on and off, select a local presentation source, adjust room volume, and control the display without needing to understand the AV infrastructure behind it.
The in-ceiling audio systems provide clear, evenly distributed coverage for teaching, video playback, worship, announcements, and group activities. This gives each classroom a more engaging and intelligible learning environment without filling the room with bulky equipment.
A large number of the classroom displays are Maxhub interactive flat-panel displays. These interactive displays allow teachers to write, annotate, draw, manipulate content, display curriculum, and collaborate directly on the screen.
Instead of using a display only as a passive presentation device, teachers can actively engage students with digital lessons, videos, interactive curriculum, activities, whiteboard-style collaboration, and real-time visual teaching tools.
That matters especially in children’s and student ministry environments, where attention, participation, and visual interaction are essential.
The children’s group-teaching space incorporates a large-format LED wall for worship lyrics, teaching content, video, announcements, motion graphics, curriculum, and special-event programming.
The youth worship environment includes its own LED wall, professional audio system, stage lighting, control, and production infrastructure. The space is designed to support student worship, teaching, worship nights, small events, rehearsals, volunteer training, and youth gatherings.
The result is a consistent technology experience across the education wing: rooms that are simple for volunteers to operate, flexible for different age groups and lesson formats, and capable of supporting the way modern ministry and learning actually happen.
Campus-Wide Infrastructure
The Christ Community Church project extends well beyond the new sanctuary and chapel.
20-20 designed and integrated connected technology systems throughout the new education wing, new gymnasium, youth worship space, children’s group-teaching environment, adult education rooms, classrooms, offices, lobby, common areas, and outdoor gathering spaces.
Every classroom includes Q-SYS control, in-ceiling loudspeakers, Maxhub display technology, and local presentation connectivity. The youth and children’s gathering environments also incorporate large-format LED walls and dedicated audio, lighting, control, and production systems.
The network infrastructure includes NETGEAR Pro AV managed switching, fiber backbone connectivity, CAT6A structured cabling, distributed AV racks, and dedicated IDF systems serving the sanctuary, education wing, youth spaces, chapel, gymnasium, and additional campus zones.
This connected infrastructure supports:
Digital audio transport
Q-SYS DSP and control
Lighting-control networking
Video distribution and streaming workflows
LED-wall processing and control
Wireless access points and technical endpoints
Distributed audio systems
Classroom and education-space technology
Youth worship and student-ministry systems
Chapel, gymnasium, lobby, office, and outdoor AV systems
Future expansion and additional technology endpoints
By designing the network, fiber, CAT6A, control, audio, video, lighting, and distributed systems as one platform, 20-20 delivered a technology foundation built for both current ministry and future growth.
Project Outcome
Christ Community Church now operates with a campus-wide AVL, acoustics, control, and Pro AV network ecosystem designed around the real needs of ministry.
The project began as a conversation about improving an existing worship environment. Through early collaboration and thoughtful planning, it became an opportunity to help build a new worship sanctuary, expanding the campus on both sides of the existing building. 20-20 helped guide that process from early planning and room design through engineering, infrastructure coordination, installation, programming, commissioning, and staff-ready operation.
For the congregation, the result is a worship environment where audio, video, lighting, acoustics, architecture, and technology support the message and the experience of gathering together.
For worship leaders and volunteers, the result is a professional, flexible, and organized production platform designed around real ministry workflows.
For church leadership, the result is a scalable campus-wide technology foundation capable of supporting worship services, student ministry, children’s programs, education, events, chapel services, community gatherings, livestreaming, and future expansion.
20-20 delivered more than an AVL system for Christ Community Church. We helped create an intentional ministry technology environment designed to serve the church from the first planning conversations through every service, event, class, and gathering that follows.
